Overview

If your data is on one computer and you want to move it to a new computer, you can’t just move the program files and data over. Instead, you have to install the same software on the new computer, update both computers to the same release, and then transfer the data from the old computer to the new computer.

  1. On the old computer with the 1099 Pro software closed, check for and update the 1099 Pro software, if necessary.
    1. Start > Programs > Name of software > Check for updates.
    2. Open the software, if needed, to initialize after the update, then close it.
  2. Create a backup of the database.
    1. Start > Programs > Name of software > Backup data.
    2. Go through the wizard and write down the location of the saved file. This is a zip archive file of your data and will be needed on the new computer.
  3. On the new computer, install the1099 Pro software using the same Activation Code.
    1. You do not need to initialize the program, if you're asked to add your first filer, click Cancel.
  4. Update the 1099 Pro software on the new computer.
    1. Start > Programs > Name of software > Check for updates.
  5. Move the zip file you created on the old computer to the new computer.
  6. Extract the contents of the zip file to the 1099 Pro programs data directory.
    1. Usually, this is located in the same location that it was on the old computer.
    2. E.g., C:\1099 Pro\Pro99TXX\Data, where "XX" represents the 4-digit year of your software and "Pro99T" may also be "ProW2T", "Pr42ST", or "Pro66T", depending on the software you are transferring.
