Notes on 1042-S Electronic Filing Name/Address processing

The electronic file generation process strips out invalid characters such as  ~!@$^*()_+`={}[]|\”:;<>?  From the T, W & Q records which would result in your electronic file being rejected by the IRS FIRE System “Bad File” including special characters that are unique to a language other than English.  This process only impacts the generated file, not your underlying data.  Allowable special characters for electronic filing include:  alpha, numeric, blank, ampersand (&), hyphen (-), comma (,), apostrophe (’), forward slash (/), pound (#), period (.), and the percent (%). Note the percent [% (used as “in care of”)] is valid in the first position only of name 2 and address fields.

A number of other small fixes and enhancements are also included in this release.
